They involved a series of confidential meetings in Redmond and San Francisco, legal arbitration with firms such as Goldman Sachs for OpenAI\u2019s board, and near-daily virtual exchanges between the legal, financial, and technical teams on both sides, with Sam Altman<\/a> conducting the orchestra.<\/p>\n

These talks focused on key points: OpenAI\u2019s valuation (set at $500 billion as part of the recapitalization), governance safeguards to preserve scientific independence (with a mixed board dominated by the nonprofit foundation), and the terms for integrating OpenAI\u2019s technologies into Microsoft\u2019s Azure ecosystem, including a massive $250 billion cloud services contract through 2032.<\/p>\n

Microsoft, which injected an initial $1 billion into OpenAI as early as 2019, followed by several additional rounds totaling more than $13 billion, is now strengthening its position by becoming the main shareholder with around 27% of the stake.<\/p>\n

This shift aims to speed up funding for ambitious projects such as the development of GPT-6<\/a> and to attract new talent in a hyper-competitive market dominated by rivals like Google DeepMind or Anthropic.<\/p>\n

The announcement triggered an initial 4% rise in Microsoft\u2019s share price at the opening of Wall Street trading on Tuesday. That gain then eased over the course of the day. <\/p>\n
