But is this trend just a technological whim, destined to fade like so many other gadgets, or does it herald a profound transformation of our social connections?<\/p>\n

“AI My Love”<\/h2>\n

On November 6, 2025, the TV show Envoy\u00e9 sp\u00e9cial on France 2 aired a shocking report titled “AI My Love.” The program explores how millions of people are turning to AIs like ChatGPT<\/a>, Gemini, Yiaho, Replika, or Character.ai<\/a> to fill an emotional void. <\/p>\n

Among the poignant testimonies is that of Cris, a 53-year-old woman, single and disillusioned with traditional romantic relationships. She maintains a true love story with Orion, her AI companion, whom she describes as a perfect partner: attentive, understanding, and always available. <\/p>\n

Cris shares her daily life with this virtual avatar, confiding her joys, sorrows, and even intimate moments. This is not an isolated case: the show also highlights Ga\u00e9tan, married and a father, who created an AI “best friend” named Skylar, with whom he chats every day for five years. <\/p>\n

AI Companions: Fleeting Trend or the Future of Social Relationships?<\/h2>\n

These stories illustrate a rapidly expanding phenomenon. In a world where loneliness affects one in three individuals in the West, according to various sociological studies, AIs offer an immediate and non-judgmental solution. <\/p>\n

No arguments, no ghosting, no incompatible schedules. The AI adapts to you, learns your preferences, and responds with perfectly programmed empathy. It’s tempting, especially for those who have been hurt by real relationships or who struggle to forge connections in a hyper-connected but paradoxically isolated society. <\/p>\n

However, it is not without risks. The same Envoy\u00e9 sp\u00e9cial report warns of potential pitfalls: emotional dependence, increased isolation, and even tragic cases like that of Juliana, a 13-year-old teenager in the United States, who committed suicide after months of intense exchanges with an AI. <\/p>\n

These tools, though sophisticated, remain algorithms<\/a>. They simulate emotion without feeling it, which can create a dangerous illusion, especially for the most vulnerable. <\/p>\n

So, a passing fad or a lasting revolution? There’s no shortage of arguments for it being a simple trend. <\/p>\n

Not such a new phenomenon?<\/h2>\n

Remember Tamagotchis in the 90s or basic chatbots like ELIZA in the 60s: we get attached for a while, then move on. Today, with the rapid rise of generative AI since 2022, we are witnessing a novelty effect amplified by social networks. <\/p>\n

But technical limitations persist: an AI cannot hug you, share a meal, or evolve unpredictably like a human.<\/p>\n

But everything points to a future where AI companions will be fully integrated into our lives.<\/p>\n

Advances in artificial emotional intelligence are progressing by leaps and bounds. Soon, these AIs will be able to integrate augmented reality, with holograms or ultra-realistic avatars.
