Why does this concept change the way we design and deploy AI? The more parameters a model has, the more it can represent complex relationships in the data. GPT-3, for example, has 175 billion parameters.  <\/p>\n<h3>Training on massive and varied data<\/h3>\n<p>Foundation models are trained on gigantic corpora: text from the web, books, images, scientific documents, computer code, etc. This diversity allows them to generalize across many contexts. <\/p>\n<h3>Versatility<\/h3>\n<p>Once pre-trained, a foundation model can be applied to very different fields without having been originally designed for those uses. This makes it possible to: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reduce long-term costs: no need to start from scratch for each project<\/li>\n<li>speed up innovation: a model can be quickly tested on new tasks<\/li>\n<li>create smarter, more flexible AI products, like ChatGPT or code copilots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Related techniques<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yiaho.com\/en\/what-is-transfer-learning-in-artificial-intelligence-a-simple-guide-to-understanding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Transfer Learning<\/strong><\/a>: a technique where a model trained on a general task is reused for a specific task.
