A decision backed by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, addressing a societal issue: protecting users\u2014especially younger ones\u2014from the potential harms of these conversational tools. <\/p>\n<p>This initiative comes after several tragedies, including suicides of teenagers who developed deep emotional bonds with AI chatbots, sparking a national debate about the responsibilities of tech companies. At Yiaho, we\u2019re very vigilant about this topic\u2014here\u2019s our analysis: <\/p>\n<h2>Regulating AI: A response to an emerging crisis<\/h2>\n<p>The rise of AI chatbots, designed to simulate human interactions and sometimes act as a confidant or companion, has transformed how people\u2014especially young people\u2014interact with technology. Platforms in the United States such as Replika, Character AI, or our Yiaho platform in France offer immersive experiences where users can chat with virtual entities with complex personalities. This tragedy pushed California authorities to act quickly. <\/p>\n<h2>Legislation on AI ChatBots<\/h2>\n<p>The new law, called <em>SB243<\/em>, specifically targets AI chatbots that act as an \u201c<em>emotional companion<\/em>.\u201d It imposes strict measures to minimize risks, especially for minors.
