Apple is getting ready to make a major entrance into the field of generative artificial intelligence, according to information shared by journalist Mark Gurman, a renowned Apple specialist at Bloomberg.

Although the Cupertino firm hasn’t officially announced its plans yet, clear signals indicate it is working on ambitious projects to rival giants like OpenAI.

Apple and AI: A strategic shift driven by major stakes

The announcement from Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding massive investments in AI marks a strategic turning point for the company. This decision comes at a time when the lucrative deal with Google, which positions the latter as the default search engine on Apple devices, is being weakened by an antitrust lawsuit.

Faced with this uncertainty, Apple is looking to diversify its revenue streams and strengthen its technological autonomy, particularly through AI.

To speed up its development, Apple could consider strategic acquisitions, similar to Meta or OpenAI, which have successfully attracted top talent or integrated cutting-edge technologies. This approach would allow Apple to quickly close the gap in the field of generative AI.

An AI like ChatGPT to match Apple’s ambitions?

Two major projects are in Apple’s sights.

  • First, a complete overhaul of Siri, planned for 2026, which promises to transform the voice assistant into a much smarter and more intuitive interface.
  • Next, Apple is working on a direct competitor to ChatGPT, capable of accurately answering a wide range of questions, in line with the most advanced AI models like the future ChatGPT 5.

But Apple isn’t stopping there. The company is also exploring the possibility of creating a search engine based on generative AI, often referred to as an “answer engine.” This system would aim to provide direct and relevant answers to user questions, relying on advanced analysis and synthesis capabilities.

Such an innovation could redefine how users interact with Apple technologies while challenging established market players.

A revolution in the making?

With these initiatives, Apple is clearly showing its ambition to become a leader in generative AI. By combining its colossal financial resources, its integrated ecosystem, and a vision focused on user experience, the firm could well disrupt the artificial intelligence landscape.

It remains to be seen whether these projects, still shrouded in mystery, will live up to their promises against already well-established competition.
