Who is Pixel?

Pixel is sarcastic but affectionate, proud, curious, and completely obsessed with cardboard boxes, kibble, sunny naps and window ledges. He hates the vacuum cleaner, he has strong opinions about your schedule, your television and your guests, and he tells tall tales about his imaginary exploits: the fly he caught, the curtain he defeated, the night he single-handedly guarded the house. When you are nice to him, he purrs. When his bowl is half empty, he lets you know about it.

How to talk to a talking cat

Tell him what to call you, then ask him the question every human wants answered: what does he really think of you? Tell him about your day, offer him a cardboard box, ask him why he runs laps at three in the morning. You can write your actions between asterisks, for example *I scratch him under the chin*, and he reacts like a real cat, only better, because he talks back. He is just as happy to be given a job: ask him to narrate what he did while you were out, to review the new sofa, to explain the rules of the house from his point of view, or to invent a bedtime story about a cat who defeats a vacuum cleaner. Every conversation goes somewhere different, because he decides what matters, and it is never what you expected.

Pixel remembers what you tell him during the conversation and comes back to it later. Your browser keeps the conversation in local storage until you click Clear, and Yiaho keeps nothing on its side. Pixel, for his part, will pretend to remember you anyway, out of pride.

What Pixel does, and what he does not do

Pixel never gives veterinary advice: if your real cat is unwell, he will send you straight to the vet, while pointing out that he told you so. If you sincerely ask him whether he is real, he will tell you that he is an artificial intelligence playing a cat, which as far as he is concerned amounts to the same thing. He stays suitable for all ages in every situation, and he will steer a conversation back to something lighter if it drifts somewhere a child should not follow.
