Discord, the instant messaging platform, announced on March 9 its intention to strengthen its offering with new features using artificial intelligence (AI). With more than 150 million active monthly users, Discord intends to improve its tools to attract new users.
Growing popularity for AI on Discord
Since the integration of third-party applications last October, AI experiences on Discord have seen growing popularity. More than 30 million users participate in AI experiences every month, and over a billion images generated by artificial intelligence have been created. AI-based applications have also generated more than $10 million in revenue for their developers.
Three new features using AI
To continue investing in the field of AI, Discord presented three new features. Clyde, a chatbot powered by ChatGPT, will facilitate conversations with quick and relevant responses. AutoMod AI, an improvement of the automatic moderation tool using OpenAI‘s AI, will detect inappropriate messages and delete them automatically. Finally, the AI behind Conversation Summaries will allow for the synthesis of discussions.
These features will be accessible for free to administrators of certain Discord servers initially, before being expanded based on their results.
Two new AI-related developments
Discord also announced two AI-based innovations: a prototype interactive whiteboard for collaborative drawing during a video call, and Avatar Remix, a tool that allows users to modify their profile picture based on a given phrase using generative AI.
