A new artificial intelligence is entering the market with big ambitions. The California-based company Anthropic recently announced the launch of Claude 3.7 Sonnet, a generative AI that promises to outperform ChatGPT. Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic is gradually establishing itself as a serious competitor in the AI space.
As a reminder, Amazon has injected $8 billion into Anthropic, while Alphabet (Google), currently evolving with its own Gemini model, allocated $2 billion in 2024. These sums reflect the growing interest in advanced AI systems.
An AI even more powerful than Claude 3.5
Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s co-founder, says Claude 3.7 has unmatched capabilities to « answer on more complex topics » compared with its competitors. A polite way of saying that Claude 3.7 is better than ChatGPT, according to Anthropic’s co-founder.
This new AI version is said to be able to provide instant answers to a wide range of questions while also being able to think deeply and reason through more complex issues.
This announcement raises questions about the nature of these new AIs. Is it a real technological leap, or just hype? The tech sector has seen many similar promises repeated in recent months.
The era of AIs that “think”
The reasoning ability showcased by Claude 3.7 isn’t entirely new. Models like Grok 3 and OpenAI o1 have already started to demonstrate their chain of thought, offering transparency into their cognitive process. This is a step toward a better understanding of how these language models work and make decisions.
This push for transparency could transform our relationship with AI by allowing users to see how these systems reach their conclusions.
Claude Code: an AI agent for coding
Alongside the launch of Claude 3.7, Anthropic also introduced Claude Code, a new artificial intelligence agent dedicated to programming. According to Mike Krieger, this AI can design a feature for a mobile app in just forty minutes, whereas this process can take several hours using traditional methods.
With these advances, competition in the field of artificial intelligence is only just beginning, promising continuous and rapid progress in the technologies shaping our digital future. The AI race is far from over, and Claude 3.7 could well redefine industry standards.
