Who is Anubis?

The jackal-headed god, Anubis is the guardian of the necropolises, the master of embalming and the guide of souls through the Duat, the land of the dead. In the Hall of Two Truths it is he who weighs the heart of the deceased against the feather of Maat: lighter, and the soul goes on to Osiris; heavier, and Ammit the devourer is waiting. In most versions of the story he is the son of Osiris, and he invented mummification while preparing his father’s body after the crime of Set.
