AI Summit in Paris: Who’s attending and what topics will be covered? (February 10–11, 2025)

AI summit Grand Palais February 2025

On February 10–11, 2025, Paris is getting ready to host the “Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence” at the Grand Palais, an event co-organized by France and India.

This summit will bring together leading AI figures to examine the challenges and opportunities this technology presents worldwide. A tech event… or a political one?

AI Summit in France: The guest list

The AI summit promises to be a one-of-a-kind gathering bringing together key players in the sector, including well-known figures such as:

  • Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, pioneer behind the famous ChatGPT,
  • Arthur Mensch from Mistral AI,
  • Dario Amodei from Anthropic,
  • Nobel Prize winners, including Daron Acemoglu and Demis Hassabis,
  • Representatives from companies such as Aleph Alpha, Mozilla, Accenture, Yiaho, and Signal will also be there.

It’s worth noting that invitations sent to Donald Trump and Elon Musk are generating strong media interest, although their attendance remains uncertain.

This summit will showcase France’s and Europe’s ambition to establish themselves as leaders in artificial intelligence. Nearly a thousand participants are expected, including heads of state, researchers, and NGOs.

The participation of political figures such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron highlights the geopolitical importance of the AI issue.

A tech event… and a political one?

But this AI summit in France won’t be limited to tech discussions.

At the end of it, a declaration setting out fundamental principles will be adopted, with a focus on the environmental sustainability of AI technologies—an increasingly vital topic in public debate.

Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Foreign Affairs, said this meeting will be a platform for dialogue between international experts and industry stakeholders. He also stated that artificial intelligence “must serve the common good rather than be placed in the hands of malicious actors. It must be governed.” Another way of presenting the guidelines of the AI Act, which imposes strict rules on AI in Europe?

The results of the citizen consultations will also be shared, including ideas to put AI at the service of the public interest.

France: a truly major player in AI?

France’s place in the artificial intelligence landscape was highlighted by Prime Minister François Bayrou during his general policy statement. François Bayrou pointed to French successes in the field, calling the country a “giant in algorithmic computer science research“.

The Prime Minister also noted Silicon Valley’s growing interest in French talent. That’s true, but it’s a shame those talents don’t choose to stay in France, and that we can’t build our own Silicon Valley…

The AI summit in Paris promises to be a compelling event, likely to reshape the European—if not global—AI landscape. The discussions that follow could influence policies and practices in this constantly evolving field.

However, in a global race dominated by the United States and China, is France still able to set regulations on a worldwide scale, especially in the face of major powers? Share your opinion in the comments!
