For Charles Gorintin (Mistral AI): “AI helps us be more human”

AI sparks as much enthusiasm as it does concern, and the voices of entrepreneurs in the sector remain interesting… even if they are sometimes self-serving!

It was in the studios of Radio France that Charles Gorintin, co-founder of Mistral AI, recently agreed to speak. Opposite him, Guillaume Grallet, journalist and author of the book Pionniers, voyage aux frontières de l’intelligence artificielle, hosted a discussion about AI.

The social impact of AI according to Charles Gorintin

At the heart of the discussion was the societal impact of this emerging technology.

Far from alarmist rhetoric, Charles Gorintin defends a resolutely optimistic approach. “Paradoxically, AI helps us be more human,” he asserts. According to him, by automating the repetitive and alienating tasks that eat away at our daily lives, such as monotonous data entry or tedious administrative processes, AI frees humans for what constitutes their essence: creativity, fun, interpersonal relationships, and intellectual activities.

This is a vision that isn’t naive and one we share at Yiaho; it’s based on the idea that technological tools, when well-mastered, amplify our capabilities rather than replacing them. Charles Gorintin thus sees AI as an ally for reclaiming time and energy, allowing everyone to focus on innovation, empathy, and the pursuits that give meaning to life.

And what about ecology?

The exchange did not avoid recurring criticisms, particularly on the ecological front.

The energy consumption of data centers and AI models is often pointed out as a burden on the planet. Here again, Charles Gorintin adopts a measured stance. He puts the scale of the problem into perspective by citing data from the International Energy Agency (IEA): AI reportedly accounts for only 0.1% of global electricity consumption.

This figure, though modest, calls for nuanced reflection. Rather than demonizing the technology, he advocates for advances in energy efficiency and responsible practices, such as those Mistral AI integrates into its developments. For him, AI is not an insurmountable ecological pit, but a field where innovation can actually contribute to sustainable solutions.

The two sides of artificial intelligence

This dialogue between the co-founder of Mistral AI and Guillaume Grallet perfectly illustrates the two sides of AI: a powerful tool capable of deeply transforming society for the better if we know how to guide its evolution.

Our conviction at Yiaho? AI must serve humans, not enslave them. In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, these exchanges remind us that the future of artificial intelligence will depend less on its raw performance than on the humanist vision we breathe into it. A lesson in… pragmatic optimism!
